Matt Hughes is set to square off with his second Gracie family opponent at UFC 112.
Hughes, who defeated hall of famer Royce Gracie at UFC 60 back in 2006, will get in the octagon with Royce's cousin Renzo this Saturday.
When asked for a fight prediction Hughes declined, but almost immediately after stated "Yes I think I'm gonna win, if I didn't think I was gonna win I wouldn't have taken the fight."
Hughes went on to say that his game plan will be similar to the one he utilized to defeat Royce; achieving the top position and utilizing his famed ground and pound attack. Interestingly enough Sherdog.com reported Monday that Renzo Gracie plans on fighting Hughes off his own back through the use of guard work. It seems as though both fighters have a similar picture as to where the fight will take place; now all that is left to be answer is who will walk away victorious.
While the winner of this bout will gain bragging rights, the title picture and divisional contender implications to be gained are very limited. The once dominant Hughes, now 36, has lost three of his last five fights. Renzo, a UFC newcomer who could easily fight at lightweight (he lost a unanimous decision to UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn in 2005), has more to gain as many are still unsure where he fits into the rankings.
Tune in Saturday night to see if Hughes' prediction, or lack of, rings true in the octagon.
